DuringmysabbaticalresearchfromDecember152010toDecember142011,Ispentfulltimeatbothlabsandclinicsinthedepartmentofradiationoncology,UTsouthwesternmedicalcenter,Dallas,Texas.Atlabsofmolecularradiationoncology,Iworkedwiththeprincipleinvestigatorandpostdoctoralresearchfellowsstudyingtheradio-sensitizingandchemo-sensitizingeffectofcertainnoveldrugstargetingDNA-dependentproteinkinase(DNA-PK),cyclin-dependentkinase,andEML4-ALKfusionproteininnon-smallcelllungcancercelllines.Ilearnedthetranslationresearchplatformtoinvestigatethetherapeuticpotentialforcombinedtreatmentfrominvitrocelllinestudytoinvivoanimalstudy.OurworkshowedthatDNA-PKinhibitorisapotentradio-sensitizerinlungcancercelllinesandpresentsactivetherapeuticeffectinxenograftanimalmodel.ItwouldallowmetobuildourownplatformbacktoNationalTaiwanUniversityHospitalforfuturetranslationalresearchanddevelopmentofclinicaltrialformulti-modalitycancertherapy.Atclinicsofradiationoncology,Iattendedthestereotacticbodyradiotherapy(SBRT)trainingprogramandfollowedradiationoncologistsinclinicalactivities.IlearnedtheentireSBRTplatformfromsimulation,treatmentplanning,qualityassurance,andtreatmentdelivery.ItwouldallowmetoimplementourownSBRTplatforminNationalTaiwanUniversityHospitaltoimproveourtreatmentoutcomeforcancerpatients. |
