Previousstudieshavesuggestedthatchrysin(5,7-dihydroxyflavone)isapotentaromataseinhibitorinvitro,whichmayincreaseserumtestosteroneconcentration.Testosteroneisahighlyanabolichormonewhichcanstimulatethegrowthofmusclemassandstrength.However,theeffectsofthechrysinsupplementationonbodycomposition,musclestrength,andexerciseperformanceinhumanhavenotyettobediscussed.PURPOSE:Toinvestigatewhetherthechrysinsupplementationwouldimprovebodycomposition,musclestrength,andexerciseperformancebyalteringthesynthesisoftestosterone.METHODS:Twentythrowingathletes(14males,6females)ofNationalTaiwanSportUniversityparticipatedinthisstudy.Subjectswererandomlyassignedinpairs(matchedforathleticevents)byuseofadoubleblinddesigntoreceivechrysin(groupC)orplacebo(groupP).Allsubjectsweregivenoralchrysindosesof3gorplaceboperdayfor21days.Bodycomposition,musclestrengthandexerciseperformancewerealsoassessedatday1,8,and22inthemorning.Bodycompositionwasevaluatedbybodyweight,bodymassindex(BMI),fatmass,fatfreemass(FFM),bodyfatpercentage,skinfoldthickness,andbodycircumference.Musclestrengthandexerciseperformanceincludingmaximalisometricforceofquadricepsandbiceps,verticaljump,standingbroadjump,andmedicineballchestpasstestwereperformed.Atwo-waymixeddesignanalysisofvariance(ANOVA)withonewithin-subjectfactor(timetrial),onebetween-subjectfactor(groupCandP),andtheirinteractionwereusedtodeterminetheoverall21-daytreatmenteffectandlevelofsignificance.Alldatawereexpressedasmean±SDandvaluesofP |
