Cyclicloadingresponseoffivereinforcedconcretecornerbeam-columnconnectionswithoneconcentricoreccentricbeamframingintoarectangularcolumninstrongorweakdirectionisreported.Thespecimenvariablesarethedirectionofshearactingonthejointandtheeccentricitybetweenthebeamandcolumncenterlines.Experimentalresultsshowthattwojointsconnectingabeaminstrongdirectionwerecapableofsupportingadjacentbeamplasticmechanisms.Theotherthreejointsconnectingabeaminweakdirection,however,exhibitedsignificantdamageandlossofstrengthafterbeamflexuralyielding.Eccentricitybetweenbeamandcolumncenterlineshaddetrimentaleffectsonthestrengthdegradation,energydissipationcapacity,anddisplacementductilityofthespecimens.ItwasconcludedthatACIdesignproceduresforestimatingnominaljointshearstrengthwereunconservativeforthetestedcornerconnectionsunderlateralloadinginweakdirectionofthecolumn.Valuableinformationisprovidedtohelpfurtherimprovethedesignrequirementsforeccentriccornerbeam-columnconnections. |
